Supply Chain Angels (SCAngels) is the corporate venture arm of YCH Group, Asia Pacific’s leading integrated end-to-end supply chain management and solutions provider, supported by Y3 Technologies, a leading supply chain management information technology and services company.

Co-invested by National Research Foundation (NRF) under the Early Stage Venture Funding Scheme III (ESVF III), SCAngels invests in startups that are synergistic and complementary to YCH’s supply chain and logistic business with the aim of “Nurturing Innovative Disruptors”.

It is more than providing money. It is about providing SMART money. Startups would be able to tap into our eco-system by utilising our in-depth sector knowledge, processes and clients.

Our startups will be encouraged to locate in Supply Chain City, a 2m sqft logistics ecosystem housing logistic operations of numerous MNCs, training of supply chain professionals and in the heart of the Jurong Innovation District.

In tandem with Singapore’s Research, Innovation & Enterprise 2020 Plan (RIE2020), SCAngels partnered with SGInnovate to identify and co-invest in innovative Singapore-based deep tech startups with intellectual property and global market potential in the Services and Digital Economy domain including artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and the Internet of Things (IOT).

    Chairman

    Robert Yap is the Executive Chairman of YCH Group, Singapore’s leading end-to-end supply chain company with operations spanning across Asia Pacific. He has close to four decades of experience in the logistics and supply chain management field.

    Robert has been widely recognised for his thought leadership and contribution to the SCM industry. In 2016, Robert was named ‘Businessman of the Year’ for the year 2015 at the prestigious Singapore Business Awards. He was previously conferred the NUS Business School Eminent Business (Senior) Alumni Award in 2014 and the Lifetime Achievement Award (Logistics) by the World Chinese Economic Forum in 2013. Robert is also the recipient of the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2007, and the Asia Logistics Hall of Fame award in 2003.

    Robert is currently President of Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF), Deputy Chairman of International Enterprise Singapore (IES), Chairman of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council Singapore, and Singapore Chairman of the Malaysia – Singapore Business Council (MSBC). He also advises various business and strategic committees such as the Singapore National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation (SINCPEC), the ASEAN SME Advisory Board and the Singapore Management University’s School of Information Systems. Robert also contributes to various local government-related councils which include the Committee on the Future Economy, the National Productivity Council (NPC), the SkillsFuture Council, and Advisory Council on Community Relations in Defence – Employers & Business (ACCORD). Robert is also the Founding Chairman of Supply Chain Asia – a regional community of more than 30,000 supply chain professionals.

    Catherine Yap is the Executive Director of YCH Group, a leading integrated end-to-end supply chain management and logistics partner to some of the world’s largest companies. She oversees finance insurance and audit functions, and with 2 decades of multi-dimensional business management and accounting experience in the logistics industry, Catherine brings to the group invaluable depth in enterprise and growth management.

     

    Catherine graduated from the London School of Accountancy and is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (UK). She has also participated in the INSEAD Euro-Asis Center Strategic Management programme, and holds a Certificate in Insurance from the Singapore Insurance Institute.

SCAngels is interested to help High Technology Early Stage Companies grow not just by providing capital but also with the ecosystem of deep set industry knowledge and access to our footprint across Asia Pacific and marque international MNC clientele.

  • Not generated more than S$5 million in annual revenue AND
  • Incorporated in Singapore with core functions like R&D, product / technology development and management team is to be based in Singapore

We believe that the startups should arm themselves with one of the most important weapons that they can have when going into “battle”. SCA will provide the “ammunition” with 3 categories of mentors: Industry, Venture and Management Mentors

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What is the investment quantum for each selected startup?

We will be looking to invest at Pre-Series A or Series A with a minimum of S$500,000 and a maximum of S$2 million into a single portfolio company. There is a possible follow on investment at Series B with a limit of S$2 million of total investment.

Q2. Do I need to have my startup incorporated in Singapore?

Yes. Companies must be incorporated in Singapore. If you need help incorporating, please, refer to the ACRA website. Alternatively, you can approach a corporate secretarial firm to help you with incorporation.

Q3. Do I have to move the whole team in Singapore?

It is not necessary to move the whole team to Singapore. However, the core high-value functions such as R&D, product and/or technology development and customization, and C-suite (CEO, CTO, etc) management team must be based in Singapore.

Q4. How will Supply Chain Angels decide on which startups to invest in?

We have an investment committee process which includes analyzing the team’s ability to execute, the product, the business model, as well as the synergies with our supply chain and logistic business.

Q5. What sets Supply Chain Angels apart from other VC funds?

We believe in providing more than just capital. Capital is just one enabler for the startup to grow. It is essential but there are so many other factors that are critical for the startup to become a unicorn.

Supply Chain Angels will provide the startup with the ecosystem to thrive. This entails giving the startup access to our infrastructure (more than 10 countries across Asia Pacific), our people (deep set industry knowledge) and our contacts (clients and service providers).

Q6. Which areas will Supply Chain Angels be focusing on?

Supply Chain Angels will be focusing its investment in the following areas:

    • “Uberisation” of Logistics : New and smart ways of maximising the utilisation of capital and assets in areas such as reverse logistics, warehousing etc
    • The Internet of Things (IoT) that provides supply chain professionals with greater visibility, accuracy and pinpoint identification of potential issues throughout supply chain processes
    • 3D printing for on demand production and where products can be virtually warehoused
    • Big Data :  Advanced supply chain technologies of the future that will automate decision making
    • Robotics such as drones, smart warehouse robots, smart machines and automation
    • Fin Tech : Revolutionising the supply chain financing system
    • Artificial Intelligence (AI) such as self-driving vehicles in the supply chain business to increase safety and efficiency
